Weekly Homework Homework is a time to review concepts students have been learning in school. It is also incorporated to instill in each student a sense of responsibility and accountability. Homework will always be given as review or practice and there will never be new concepts your child has not seen. Your child is capable of completing their assigned homework independently, however, parental involvement and assistance is always welcomed and appreciated! All homework is subject to change as the year progresses! Reading:

Weekly spelling words and vocabulary words with definitions will be listed on the weekly news page each Friday for the following week as well as posted on our class website and Spellingcity.com (http://www.spellingcity.com/Lockett2A/) every Monday. Please practice these words at home with your student as needed. There will be a spelling and vocabulary test each Friday. Writing: Students will receive a different paragraph of the week activity sheet every Monday beginning September 5th. Students should work on their paragraph throughout the week and turn in a final draft on Friday. Example Timeline: Monday – Brainstorm ideas Tuesday – Write first draft Wednesday – Revise and edit draft Thursday – Write final draft Paragraph Prompt for Week of 1010/16: Going on an Expidition (Informational) Imagine you are about to set out on an expedition or a trip to a strange land. What things will you choose to take with you, and why? What things will you need to survive? Write a paragraph explaining how you will prepare for your expedition. Math: Math will be assigned for each lesson and each assignment will be an extension of the concepts we are studying in class that day/week. Math homework will always be due the next day. Do not let it pile up because it could be very overwhelming and stressful for your child. If there are problems that your child did not understand please write a note or circle the problem and have him/her show me as soon as they arrive to school. I will be better able to address areas of misunderstanding as soon as they occur. They will have an opportunity to complete the assignment in class and turn it in for full credit. *Fact Fluency practice will be assigned as needed and is always helpful to practice at home. Science/Social Studies: These subject areas will be integrated into the other homework assignments, and specific assignments will only be given periodically.
